SENIOR MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Members of our Medical & Editorial team enjoy a high degree of autonomy in their work, with the opportunity to develop high-quality independent medical education activities and establish collaborative partnerships with internationally renowned clinical experts.
You will contribute to the development of grant requests and IME activities. Working closely with relevant colleagues, you will ensure all materials are written to the highest scientific quality and meet key learning objectives that address unmet educational needs.
In addition to content delivery, you will take on line management responsibilities for Medical Directors and/or Medical Writers, supporting their ongoing development. You will also work closely with the Head of Medical and Principal Medical Director to support resourcing of grant requests and activities, team development and overall company goals, such as product development
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Working closely with the principal Medical Director:
- Line manage Medical Directors and/or Medical Writers to ensure timely delivery of high-quality proposal and activity content.
- Lead on decisions regarding proposal development and activity development, liaising with the Head of Medical and Principal Medical Director as required
- Consistently lead the delivery of scientifically accurate work of high quality, which meets key educational objectives identified in partnership with an expert faculty.
- Develop and maintain relationships with key clinical experts and actively identify new opportunities for developing medical education that continue to address unmet needs for HCPs.
- Show a proactive and flexible approach to your work, regularly supporting the team with both new business development and activity delivery.
- Effectively lead the delivery of assigned activities, including taking responsibility for the development process, review, approval and adherence to timelines, in close collaboration with a Medical Writer.
- Ensure that all materials are of high quality, scientifically accurate, appropriate to the target audience, meet the educational objectives of the activity and conforms to industry guidelines.
- Serve as the lead scientific contact for your clinical experts (and pharmaceutical supporters), building key relationships and contributing to the identification of new educational activities.
- Provide editorial support and guidance along with strategic input to supporter accounts, actively seeking to add value and working closely with the Medical Writers/education management team to ensure activities are completed on time and within budget.
- Proactively manage your workload and be aware of your line reports’ workloads, to assist with forecasting resource requirements (including freelancers) to service educational activities effectively. Follow and maintain knowledge of the latest industry guidelines and best practices. Provide excellent scientific and strategic input during interactions with clinical experts/supporters.
- Represent the company at key events and meetings with clinical experts/supporters.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of new business proposals, attending supporter calls and pitches as required to secure new business and grow existing accounts.
- Communicate effectively with all departments and senior management, and proactively seek ways to improve efficiency or quality to achieve team goals.
- Provide inspiration, share best practice and actively encourage team members to be more creative and innovative in their approach.
PERSONAL SPECIFICATION
- Life science degree essential, higher degree (PhD) preferred.
- Appropriate industry experience, ideally in an agency environment.
- Scientific knowledge in our eight key therapy areas: oncology, neurology, endocrinology, ophthalmology, respiratory, cardiology, immunology and infectious diseases.
- Experience of a broad range of medical education activities across the full range of media.
- Ability to pick-up on new therapy are quickly and to work independently across multiple activities. Excellent scientific writing style.
- On-site and supporter facing experience essential.
- Fantastic attention to detail.
- Good team player.
- Proven organisational and planning abilities.
- Experience in briefing and managing the workload of freelancer medical writers.
- Proactivity and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Presentation skills.
- Line management and/or mentoring experience.
