Continuing the response to COVID-19 from Touch Medical Media, Chief Operating Officer David Noble explains how HCPs can still benefit from virtual education.

While the world is consumed with concern over the coronavirus pandemic, life does still go on. Despite the serious health issues and threat to life that this virus poses, other health conditions still have to be treated and managed, new compounds tested, results peer reviewed, published and discussed as experts establish the best ways to use new treatments.

At the heart of this process is medical education, a field that I have worked in for much of my career, throughout other world crises the need for education has never dwindled and that remains true today.

At Touch Medical Media (TMM) we have been delivering online education for 17 years. It’s a skill and an art that we have perfected by experience, working with hundreds of renowned faculty members – every major pharmaceutical company in the world, as well as some smaller ones, have supported our education to some degree or other as they recognise our expertise in reaching global audiences, engaging them in learning activities and measuring the clinical impact of those activities.

It is one thing to say ‘we can do virtual’, it is quite another to have the long-term experience that we have at TMM along with our trusted strategic partners. Every single format that we use to educate HCP’s is already based on virtual technologies, or has been designed to adapt to a virtual environment. Just this month we held a Panel Discussion,at the last minute one of the faculty could not travel, so she connected virtually through our existing virtual back-up plan, no panic just a seamless transition.

This week I have been busy fine tuning our current educational formats to ensure that the education we provide is just as powerful, when delivered virtually, if not more so. A key point that many education providers miss when moving to a virtual environment is that the impact is much lower if you do not make the education available on-demand after the virtual event. That is our daily business, everything we do is made available to even wider audiences on-demand for up to 18 months, no special software required to access, no paywall, no complicated registration wall.

Our expertise is much needed right now as this current congress season is by and large cancelled or postponed. We are already delivering education that would have been live panel discussions or live presentations at satellite symposia virtually. Much of our virtual delivery is just business as usual for Touch Medical Media. We are busy, but we are a scalable business so none of our supporters or clients will be disappointed. If you are responsible for medical communications or independent medical education/CME, and you’d like to hear more about how we can deliver education virtually, please get in touch.
